Past 100 Years of O&K’s History

Kazuta OkuPresident

In retrospect, to put it simply, time passed quickly in the past 100 years.
It has been about 15 years since I took up the post of president. When I took office, O&K was increasing the number of production bases, partially thanks to Japan’s high economic growth period.

I have heard, however, that 100 years ago, United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) was leading the world and O&K had imported some products from U.S. Steel.
As far as I remember, it was not until the 1970s that Japanese steel manufacturers became capable of manufacturing steel products of the highest quality in the world as their strenuous efforts to produce the best products in the world paid off.

Fortunately, our wires began to be used for nails and screws for building houses and then found to be suited for household appliances and construction materials and, nowadays, for screws, bolts, and nuts that are components of automobiles, which means that the needs for our products have been changing with the times while we have been capturing business opportunities.

In the background, Japanese companies achieved a remarkable economic progress in the postwar days, which I believe is one of the factors that enable us to make progress as they did.

Toward the Next Generation

Next 100 Years of O&K’s History

Japan’s economy has been caught in a wave of global competition lately, and it will change at a higher speed than ever before.
There are not only economic changes, but also climate changes that generate the ongoing scorching heat of nearly 40°C in these few years in Japan.
How we cope with the changing environment is one of the imminent issues facing us. Will only companies that can flexibly accommodate these changes stay in business?

I also feel anxious that Japanese companies’ manufacturing and craftsmanship are losing momentum against China, which is leading the world with its global manufacturing capabilities.
What will be the key to the future is automation, streamlined corporate systems, and partnership.

I believe, however, that we will never lose this competition as we have the technical capabilities of making high-quality wires for cold heading with good workability out of iron products for which arduous processes are required for producing many models in small quantities.

I would like to tell our employees and affiliated companies that we can do anything if we work together.
Let’s attain success with our own hands.

Concept

“To show unity as a team, connection with society, and competitive spirit”

O&K has 100 years of our history as a professional manufacturer of cold-heading wires.
The green circle at the center of the logo indicates the color concept that we give our heart to sustainability and peace in the society thrown into turmoil and contribute to the society. The black circle on the right of the green one represents iron and steel that are materials handled in our business, and the yellow circle put on the upper right is a symbol representing our team members and the future.

The two circular motifs that cross each other depicts our determination to co-exist with the society while showing our strength and unity as a team. The message conveyed by the logo is that our team members represented by the yellow circle takes the lead toward the creation of a good company and a happy and bright future in solidarity, as well as cherishing the aforementioned determination, strength, and unity.
